Training Human Service Staff: Evidenced-Based Strategies for Promoting Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Trainee Acceptance

Dennis H. Reid & Carolyn W. Green

Effective staff training is critical for human service agencies to provide quality supports and services for people with disabilities. This book describes evidence-based means of training performance skills to staff based on over five decades of research in applied behavior analysis and the authors’ combined 85 years of training and research experience. Numerous in-person and technology-based training procedures are described with an emphasis on what research and application have indicated about each procedure’s effectiveness, efficiency, and acceptability among staff trainees. Ways to overcome barriers to successfully training staff in human service agencies are addressed in practical detail.

‶. . . a wonderful book . . . thorough descriptions of training strategies and supporting research . . . an unbiased review of advantages and disadvantages of each strategy . . . the authors do not shy away from the very real pressures and barriers service providers face in the real world when it comes to staff training″
